Museum Madness- MOCA Grand

The Moca on Grand in downtown La is free on Thursday nights. Since it is a MOCA it is made up of contemporary art. The main exhibit that was on post WWII art. The artist chose mediums that weren’t really used to create pieces that showed how they felt when the war was over and all that was left was destruction.

The Museum was actually rather large, but it looks really small. They had a large couple of rooms filled with the post WWII art. The some of the materials that were used are newspaper, animal hides, fire, and many other uncommon materials for the time. The exhibit was actually pretty interesting so I highly recommend it.

Museum Madness- MOLAA

At the Museum of Latin American Art they were featuring a female painter, a female photographer, and a male boxer. The painter, Debora, did political and nude figures of women paintings. She was considered very provocative for her time. Although I believe that all art is provocative. The photographer, Lola, did black and white photos of mainly people. I didn’t much care for the boxer since I am not much into boxing.

The MOLAA has a sculpture garden with what looks likes a pheonix sculpture made out of many different colors, a spiderweb looking sculpture that is right in front of me, and a sculpture that kind of looks like a squiggle. And the Molaa is free on Sundays!

Museum Madness- Moca Pacific Design Center

The MOCA Pacific Design Center is the smallest art museum I have ever been to. It is a two story building with only two rooms. It is run on donations only so feel free to visit any time. It is located off of Melrose and San Vicente, right in front of the Pacific Design Center.

The Featured artist at this MOCA was Ben Jones. He does colorful strange videos. There were four videos being shown when we went. There was only one video with sound and it had a man taking videotapes and putting them in his VCR. He was watching strange things. The style was almost like that of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. And at the end or beginning of the video they said it was the end of the world. Very interesting….

Japan’s Spectacular Tunnels of Light.

If you happen to be in Japan from now until March 31st, 2013, be sure to check out one of Japan’s most stunning displays of light called Winter Illuminations at Nabana no Sato, a botanical garden turned light theme park on the island of Nagashima in Kuwana. Opened just yesterday, it’s already been called one of the best winter light shows in all of Japan. The park really outdoes itself by using millions of sparkling LED’s all over the vast grounds including on the water and in the gardens. This years theme is ‘nature’ and it promises gorgeous scenes including a beautiful sunrise inspired by Mt. Fuji at dawn, a rainbow across the sky, and even an aurora. The stars of the show are the famous walk-through tunnels of light that completely envelop the viewer, making it seem as if they’re walking through bright, magical portals.
